Pet Travel Alert! NJ Seat Belt Law for Pets

Heading to the NJ Shore with your pet for the 4th of July? Be aware the new NJ dog car safety statute 4:22-18  includes a “click-it-or ticket” law for animals who are unrestrained in vehicles. This means that owners, who do not have their dog secured with a seat belt or place their cats and dogs in a carrier that is buckled down, can be stopped by the police or animal control officers and issued tickets for $250 to $1,000 per animal.

The law is due to a fatal accident that was caused by a dog that jumped into the lap of the driver and blocked his vision.

If you need help purchasing a seat belt for a dog or carrier for your pet, stop by Braxton’s and speak with an associate. For more pet travel information, click here.
